Whatever your instincts, that’s the direction I’ll want your shoot to go in for you. It’s always a thrill to see the images loved.
Ann and Jeremy Roberts, on their extended family imagery in central London
Family members from Australia- Scotland, 9 of us! We asked Mel to capture us with central London icons and what a fun morning we had! She planned a route that ticked our wishlist and one we could walk most of. From Millenium Bridge- Oxo Tower- Thames beach- Big Ben to Whitehall, we strolled. The four children loved her. The pace was great. She even left time for a coffee stop for the adults, whilst the children had solo and sibling shots. Mel has a great eye, aesthetically. She visualised the images before the day and gave us fantastic advice on colours for clothing. She knew the city in winter would be dominated by greys and splashes of red, so we dressed in plums, greys, taupes and deep blues. Our images are on her family gallery with our daughters’ beautiful tulle skirts. She married us and our colours to the cityscape and its red telephone boxes. The red, white and blue bunting she ‘borrowed’ for the kids from a street artist, totally on the hoof, was all part of the fun! She is infectious in her opportunism and enthusiasm. The images are unique. Could not have asked for more. Hire her!
Heidi and Marc Edwards, on their baby imagery at home, Southfields Sw18 London
2 days after the baby was born, we knew our 2 year old son was not in love with his sister! On photography day, we’d been up since 5am coping with tot tantrums and an overtired newborn. Mel had reassured us that she books nothing else on a newborn shoot day, so if we need extra time there is no charge. Boy did we need the extra time!
Mel walked in all empathy. Our eldest, uncharmed by baby, greeted Mel by telling her he wanted to wear nappies again! She just shook his hand then took the baby, so I could shower. My husband asked if there was time to placate our son with pancakes, she took it in her stride. I did my make up, whilst Mel took solo shots of the baby. Afterward, she charmed our eldest with a game of hide and seek. She just kept telling us that it’s often a waiting game. Whilst we had solo and couple shots with the baby, our son began following Mel around growing more and more curious about this fun, patient visitor snapping away. In the end, he was eating out of her hand. We got everything we wanted. What I learned was that you don’t just hire a newborn photographer, you need to know they can handle the sibling too. Mel has kid skills, two boys of her own, camera skill in abundance and a really warm easy way about her. We will be back every year.
Noelle and Loren Remetta, on their three family shoots in Wimbledon
Mel is a talented and warm-hearted photographer. Her dedication to getting me the right shot is why I come back every year. She has an excellent eye, knows how to use light and captures the attention of my children like no one else. Everyone in my family leaves the experience feeling silly, satisfied and happy. She makes it easy to get my children excited to have a repeat photo shoot again each year. And the photographs are ones to cherish for a lifetime.
Louise and Martyn Worsley, on their 3 family mini-shoot experiences,Wimbledon SW19
We always have a fantastic time with Mel. 3 consecutive years we have been in front of her lens and she is fabulous with the children. She is warm, fun and fast. My heart bursts when I see my son and daughter captured. The photographs are stunning. We take the dog every time. Even he looks good! I find her super reasonably priced. The shoot images take pride of place in our home. I talk her up all the time and recommend her to everyone.
Alice and Aslan Yavuz on their Hampden House wedding, Buckinghamshire
The tip I would give, now, is to hire the best photographer you possibly can, even if it means diverting budget from elsewhere. Mel was amazing on the day and helped get our timings back on track after the guest’s coach went missing on the way to reception. She saved our day by shooting our couple shots before the rest of guests arrived, so we were back on track with fizz in no time. Mel included an engagement shoot in our package, so we were comfortable in front of her camera. I think this has made the images from the wedding more relaxed. Mel understood what we wanted from our wedding photography and we couldn’t be happier with the album. You spend so long planning all the little details of the day so, to us, having someone take beautiful photographs to keep forever is some of the best money we spent.Thank you Mel!
Ben and Luisa Howlett on their Hotel Du Vin Cannizaro House wedding, Wimbledon
We found Mel through the venue’s supplier list and we are so glad we did. She is a lovely photographer. The engagement shoot meant we got to know her before the day. On the day, she had our groomsmen all on side really fast. She has tricks galore, including getting our guests to use their mobile phone torches to light our first dance like starlight. We didn’t know it was coming. She offers great advice on album layout but lets you choose all the photographs. The Queensberry album is beautiful. Thank you Mel.
Helen and Andrew Reilly, on their wedding imagery at the Four Seasons, Hampshire
Thank you so much for being the perfect wedding photographer, Mel. From the very first moment we met you, we knew that we wanted you to be part of our big day. Thank you for the invaluable advice, for keeping us calm on the day and for taking such beautiful photographs. Everyone loved you including guests and venue staff. You are incredibly talented and we wish you every success. We will be back- one day in the future- for baby photographs.
